WELCOME TO HELLENIC FEST

Hellenic Fest is St Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church's annual festival which dates back to 1983 and transports us for one weekend from our island to the beautiful islands and mainland of Greece. Each year the residents and visitors of Newport experience the traditional culture, food, pastries, wine, music and dancing which the Greek community of Newport proudly shares during this cultural celebration.  Enjoy being Greek for the day as you join us for the sights, sounds, and tastes of Greece at this fun, family-friendly celebration and get the chance to win one of our raffles' prizes!

Each summer Saint Spyridon hosts Hellenic Fest. The community works very hard to pull the event together, our largest fundraiser of the year, and it is a wonderful opportunity for our church to showcase our rich Greek culture

By 1896 four Greeks arrived in the city of Newport, all from the island of Skiathos. Drawn by the lure of the sea, they made a living in Newport’s small but thriving fishing industry. Many Greeks soon followed these earliest Hellenic settlers to Newport.  In 2015 Saint Spyridon celebrated our 100th year as a parish in Newport, RI.  As generations before us have celebrated, our generations and those generations coming look forward to celebrating another 100 years!

At St. Spyridon's church services are conducted throughout the week, with Great Vespers on Saturday evenings, through Orthros (Matins) and the Divine Liturgy on Sunday mornings. We celebrate and commemorate all feasts of our Lord, the Theotokos, and of the major saints.
